So did you follow the advice in the error message and performed a chkdsk operation? Did that error message persist even after such an operation? I did resize it in Macrium as I mentioned in my post, but it still fails with the error message I mentioned Don't know how to declare a disk as slave in SATA. I know such a term only back in history in times of (P)ATA disks.

Is it because I'm using it as a slave on my desktop PC? The drive still works fine in the laptop, so do I really need to run chkdsk on it or is this error likely caused by something else? I'm using Macrium Reflect to perform the cloning. The 2TB hdd connected via sata and the new 250GB SSD connected via a USB 3 adapter. Since the laptop only has the slower USB 2, I am using my Windows 7 desktop PC to perform the clone. The 2TB hdd only has 45.59GB of used space, so I have plenty of room to spare for the ssd. I'm wanting to replace my Windows 10 2TB hdd with a 250GB ssd in my Dell laptop Inspiron 15-3567.
